Freedom Set for Clash with Rivals from North of the 49th Parallel

The USA Freedom held their annual training camp over the weekend of June 15-17 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. There was a great turn out by women from all across the USA with many returning players from the 2011 International Cup squad and a number of new faces.

“Thanks to each and every player that made it to Minneapolis over the weekend, what a blast it was to be back training, playing and socializing as the mighty Freedom,” said Leigh Barnes, Freedom Head Coach, “now we move our focus to the actual game itself, the 49 Parallel Cup against Canada”.

New York Australian Football League Season Kicks Off

MANHATTAN — Brooklyn resident and longtime athlete Andrea Casillas attended her first Australian football game seven years ago in her home state of Arizona. Right away, she was hooked.

"I tried it just one day and I loved it," she said. "It's really active and you get to a point where you've played enough basketball and volleyball and want something new."

Women's Aussie Rules football hit Philadelphia as players from Boston, New York, Montreal, Baltimore and Ontario joined forces to play a 14-a-side match on a full sized field.

Lady Eagles Take Down Lady Magpies

In the first match on US soil for the East Coast Women’s League, the Baltimore Washington Eagles hosted the New York Lady Magpies to a 9 a side game in nearly perfect footy weather at Frank C. Bocek Park. With the teams’ successful recruiting efforts in 2012, both Baltimore-Washington and New York had players experiencing their first ever full-tackle game.

Hamilton Wildcats vs Dingos

The Hamilton Wildcats made history at Colonel Samuel Smith Park in Toronto this past Saturday (May 5).

Last season, the Ontario Australian Football League introduced women’s footy to its leagues to compliment the 11 Division 1 and six Division 2 men’s teams. The Wildcats found some minor interest but were unable to get enough players to field a women’s club for the 2011 season. But that wasn’t the case on Saturday and the results of an off-season recruiting and promoting program were evident.

West Coast Wildcats v Alberta

Part of the Men's traditional BC Cup we had the opportunity to showcase our Women at 1pm at Burnaby Lakes Rugby Fields.

We started off really well on an unfamiliar field, size and 18 a side and after we loaned Calgary 4 players as they were short. Marlena scored a great goal and we added a couple of behinds which had us up by 8 points at quarter time.
