Magpies Take on Boston

On a sunny, humid September day the Magpies and Lady Pies resumed action, taking on their Boston opponents for the second time in 2012. The Magpies put in a strong four quarter performance to notch up a resounding win over Boston while the Lady Pies showed their improvement and potential, sticking with the ladder leading Lady Demons for 2 of 4 quarters.

A multi-sport athlete growing up, Kendra Heil had no idea there was one missing piece to her athletic puzzle.

The Simcoe native found it this summer — Australian rules football.

“I think I fell in love with it because it’s a combination of every sport that I’ve ever played — basketball, volleyball, soccer, rugby,” said Heil. “It has something from everything and that made it very challenging but at the same time very pleasant because I got to use all my skills from previous sports.”

The US came out controlling the ball in the first quarter but only managed a couple of behinds before Lyndsay Kastanek scored the first major of the quarter.  Aimee Legault gets Canada on the board with a behind.  Inaccurate kicking by the US keeps the score close.
