Scores

The Sacramento Screamers traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada, to play the club's first ever regular season USAFL games last weekend.

The  game was between the Screamer's women and Arizona Lady Hawks, and although the Lady Hawks eventually won by 29 points it was a hard fought battle!

Despite losing the game, the weekend was a huge success for the Screamers as they continue to increase the participation of Sacramento residents in Australian Football at the national level.

Sacramento Press: Australian Rules Football Club

by Hossana Paida, published on March 28, 2011

While most Americans may be more familiar with sports such as football, soccer or basketball, very few have heard of Australian Rules Football.

Australian native Amy Bishop, 31, explained that Australian Rules Football, also known as “footy” or “Aussie rules,” is a very popular sport in Australia, and it is unlike rugby, soccer or any other sport.

Australian Rules Football, also known as "Aussie Rules" or "Footy", is a physical sport played as both non-contact and full-contact. It is not rugby, soccer or any other sport. It is unique to Australia and its roots are traceable back to early forms of rugby and Gaelic football. The Sacramento Footy Club is relatively new with 2009 being our inaugural season.

Amy and Matt Bishop from the Sacramento Australian Rules Football Club have the lowdown on this down-under sport.

Denver wins 2010 USAFL Nationals

Sunday's weather looked to be a repeat of Saturday's: hot and sunny.  Four teams made it through the semifinal and two others would battle it out to avoid taking home the wooden spoon.  After the first day, it seemed like the two pool winners Calgary/Montreal and New York/Baltimore would be the favorites against the second seeds from the opposite pool.

2010 Nationals Day 1

Calgary/Montreal vs Columbus/Arizona

Despite the forecast of upper 80's and not a cloud to be seen, the morning dew definitely made the ball slick in the opening game.  This lead to a scrappy low scoring affair but the more seasoned Calgary/Montreal superclub won comfortably over the inexperienced Hawkaroos from Columbus and Arizona.
