The Eagle Dees girls played their 2nd game of the season on Saturday taking on the Blues line up once again.

After some great training sessions after the previous encounter and a few Div 2 games under the belt, the girls came out all guns blazing.  With everyone following the game plan to the letter (most importantly having fun) the Eagles Dees increased the lead in each of the 1st 3 quarters.

It’s one of the toughest sports known to man.

And women.

Australian Rules football isn’t just for big, hairy, toothless, testosterone-driven men anymore.These ladies can get down and dirty, too.

Calgarian Caitlin Kidd got involved in the sport after watching her older siblings.

“I had three brothers who were already playing and they encouraged me,” Kidd said.

The Central Blues women traveled to Guelph to play the opening round of the inaugural women's season. Their opponent was the Toronto Eagles/HighPark Demons combined squad led by ex-Blue Caitlyn Finney. There were the usual pre-game jitters made a little worse by the fact that the girls were playing against a team coached by National Team assistant coach Mark Peterson. The nerves were quickly forgotten at the first ball up and it was game on.

To the uninitiated, the sport may resemble a form of on-field anarchy, but Australian rules football actually contains the elements of several well-known competitive activities.

“What I like about it is that it combines aspects of a lot of different sports,” said Red Deer native Caitlin Kidd, 27, a member of Canada’s Australian rules football national women’s team, the Northern Lights.

Lady Pies Name Lina Staropoli as Coach

The Lady Magpies are thrilled to announce the appointment of their first official coach, former player Lina Staropoli.  Hailing from the Land Down Under, Lina has many years of coaching under her belt in soccer.  Lina has decided to turn in her boots and put on a whistle to coach a more physical sport with one of the most physical women’s teams in the USAFL.

Eastern Women’s Teams Take the Field in NYC

On April 30th, the Boston Demons traveled to NYC to battle the New York Magpies for the annual ANZAC Plate match.  However, this year’s ANZAC Plate had a pleasant addition from years past, a women’s game.  Kicking off their inaugural year, the Boston Lady Demons brought 4 women to the Big Apple to play against the New York Lady Magpies.  While originally, the Lady Demons hoped to combine with the Baltimore Lady Eagles, the teams did not have enough women to field a side.  New York, Boston, and Baltimore pooled their players, and NY Lady Magpies Coach Lina Staropoli divided the women up into
