The Central Blues women traveled to Guelph to play the opening round of the inaugural women's season. Their opponent was the Toronto Eagles/HighPark Demons combined squad led by ex-Blue Caitlyn Finney. There were the usual pre-game jitters made a little worse by the fact that the girls were playing against a team coached by National Team assistant coach Mark Peterson. The nerves were quickly forgotten at the first ball up and it was game on.
Both sides fought for dominance early, it was the Eagles with the extra shots at goal kicking 2 goals 2 behinds to the Blues 2 goals straight. Eagles lead at the first break by a slim margin. The second quarter saw the two teams exchange shots on goals. The Blues however kicked truer with 3 goals to the Eagles one. Continued pressure by the Blues saw them extend their lead to 3 goals by the end of the third quarter. The Blues knew the Eagles would come out strong in the fourth determined to close the gap. Strong defensive pressure created inaccurate kicking by the Eagles. While the Blues began to rebound the ball out and then attack with long kicks into strong leads from the forwards. The Blues ran out 4 goal winners with accurate kicking. A solid first outing by the Blues women.
