This is a very exciting year for Australian Rules Football, as the International Championship (World cup) takes place this year in Australia. This is the first year that there will be a Women's Division with six teams competing: Canada, USA, Italy, Ireland, Papau New Guinea and a combined Multicultural and Indigenous team. The women’s section of the IC11 will be played between the 15th - 27th of August, 2011 in Sydney and Melbourne.
Three players from the province of Quebec have been selected to represent Canada for this event: Kyle Graham and Sisters Margo and Aimee Legault. These athletes have all played other sports in different countries but have never traveled as far as Oz to represent their country: Kyle played semi-professional soccer in London, England, Aimee lived in Rochester, New York for four years where she was on a soccer scholarship and Margo played rugby for the province of Connaught in the West of Ireland.
Other prospects from the West Island that are expected to participate in the IC2011 are Lindsay Belzie for Canada and Ronan Shaughnessy (originally of Ireland) for the Irish team. Lindsay is recovering from a fractured ankle and is hoping to recover in time, as for Ronan, the Irish team has not been selected yet.
All of these players compete in the ECAFL (Eastern Canadian Australian Football League) and have won several awards.
