Freedom Training Camp Success

Last weekend the USA Revolution and USA Freedom held their final training camp before the 2011 International Cup in Austin, Texas. There were 34 Revolution and 22 Freedom hopefuls competing for a spot on the squads to travel to Australia in August.

"The weekend was a great success and definitely gave us a lot to think about", said Revolution Head Coach, Matt Bishop, "We will be announcing the squad for the 2011 International Cup in the coming weeks". read more »

The Freedom Prepare for Australia

The USA Freedom are preparing for their first ever AFL International Cup tour to Australia later this year.

“I’m extremely excited to be coaching the Freedom at their first big international tournament.” said Coach, Leigh Barnes, “This is going to be a fantastic experience for both the players and coaching staff and the event will mark a significant achievement in the history of women’s footy in the U.S.”. read more »

2007 Freedom Team

On August 4th & 5th 2007, the Freedom traveled to Vancouver, BC to play the newly formed Canadian Eagles national team. We believe that this was the first women's international match in the history of Australian Football. On Saturday the two teams played a tune up match of 2x20 minutes. The Freedom ran out winners by a score of 7.7.49 to 0.0.0. Highlights of the match were Atlanta's Judith Stein scoring the first international goal for the USA. read more »

Leigh Barnes Named US Freedom Coach

The USAFL is proud to announce Leigh Barnes as the new head coach of the US Freedom.  Leigh hails from Launceston, Tasmania and played footy in Tasmania and Queensland from 1976 to 1996.  In 1997 he moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where founded, played, and coached the Santa Cruz/Golden Gate Roos. 

His coaching career began in 1985 coaching under 17's, under 18's, Reserves. Upon moving to California, he coached the Golden Gate Roos to a Div II Championship in 2005 and brought them up to Division I in 2006. read more »

2011 US Freedom Tryouts

Calling all players!  The US Freedom is accepting nominations from players who wish to try out for the 2011 team.  The highlight of the year will be heading to Australia to compete in the inaugural AFL International Cup Women's Division.  The tournament organizers are expecting 6-8 teams from around the world to compete in this historic tournament.

The USAFL has announced the 2011 International Cup. There are 6-8 women's teams from across the world interested in playing. The dates are tentatively set for August 12-27 with games played in Sydney (Aug 12-21) and Melbourne (Aug 22-27). However this is subject to change depending on scheduling.

In the past, the Freedom team was chosen at Nationals in order to prepare for the Australian Tour. This year we are making some modifications to help the incoming coach make the final selection of the 2011 Freedom team. read more »

2011 International Cup

2011 will be the first year of a women's division at the International Cup.  Fresh off their tour of Australian in 2009, the US Freedom will be returning to Australia.

The tournament will start off in Sydney and then move to Melbourne on Aug 22.
