New Coaches Looking Forward

With the growing popularity of women's football in North America, many clubs had new coaches in 2011 who are now looking forward to 2012.

Minnesota Freeze

Dale "Diesel" Williams (Head Coach) - Dale has been a member of the Minnesota Freeze since their debut at the 2005 USAFL Nationals.  He served as the clubs second president from 2007 - 2008.  Dale took over the coaching duties after the 2010 USAFL National Championships.

Andrew "Tiger" Werner - Tiger has joined the coaching staff as an assistant coach with a focus on fitness.  He has been playing footy since 2008 and spent the 2009 season playing with the Mount Barker Bulls in Western Australia.  Tiger is the captain of the Minnesota Freeze men's team and a vice captain for the US Revolution

Jason Becker - The third member of the coaching staff is Jason Becker.  Jason got his start playing with the Milwaukee Bombers before moving to Minnesota in 2003.  He was a member of the US Revolution for the inaugural International Cup in 2002.  Jason was a past head coach for the Freeze Men's team and has been an assistant coach for the US Revolution since 2007.

The women of the Minnesota Freeze are excited to be coached by this talented group!

Sacramento Screamers

Leigh Barnes - Barnesy has taken the coaching helm of the Sacramento Screamers and is also the new head coach for the US Freedom Women's National team. Leigh was born in Tasmania and played footy there and in Queensland.  Upon moving to the San Francisco Bay Area, Leigh was a founder of the Golden Gate Roos Australian Football Club.  He has served the Roos in many capacities including president, player, and coach.  Leigh was the USAFL western region Vice President.

New York Magpies

Lina Staropoli - Lina is the first female head coach in the USAFL.  Lina is an Australian with a background in soccer and works for the MLS.

Coach Staropoli is “delighted” to be the official leader behind this faction of the Magpie Army.  “The Lady Pies are a great bunch of ladies to be associated with, and I’m happy that I can continue to contribute to the team,” Lina commented.  Lina’s plan for the season is to get some consistency in training and more game time to give the Pies “a little extra and tip us over the line in Austin.”

Calgary Kookaburras

Holly Greatwich -  Holly is a founding member of the Calgary Kookaburras and has assumed the head coaching position. "The opportunity to coach against different teams, with varied levels of player experience enables new recruits to improve pretty quickly. Also, the strong social atmosphere will only improve as we grow and it's very exciting to see everything coming together. I'm looking forward to leading the club and I have no doubt that the Kookaburras will continue to involve more girls in this great sport and a be an inclusive social sporting choice."
